👀 Conjunctivitis (Red Eye) in Children: Causes, Homecare, and Treatment for Babies

🌸 What is Conjunctivitis?

Conjunctivitis is the inflammation of the thin, transparent layer of tissue (conjunctiva) that covers the white part of the eye and the inside of the eyelids. When it gets irritated or infected, the eye becomes red, watery, itchy, or sticky.

🤒 Causes of Conjunctivitis in Children

  1. Viral infection – Often linked to colds, spreads easily.

  2. Bacterial infection – Can cause yellow/green sticky discharge.

  3. Allergic reaction – Triggered by dust, pollen, or pet dander.

  4. Irritants – Smoke, soap, shampoo, or dust in the eye.

  5. Blocked tear duct (in babies) – Can mimic conjunctivitis symptoms.

👶 Symptoms to Watch For

  • Redness in one or both eyes

  • Watery or sticky discharge

  • Eyelids stuck together after sleep

  • Itchiness or rubbing eyes

  • Swelling of eyelids

  • Increased tearing

No sharing – Towels, pillows, or washcloths should be separate.
